Allozyme and DNA sequence comparisons of nine species of Encephalartos (Zamiaceae).
Phylogenetic relationships between Encephalartos altensteinii Lehmann, E. arenarius R.A. Dyer, E. horridus (Jacquin) Lehmann, E. latifrons Lehmann, E. lehmannii Lehmann, E. longifolius (Jacquin) Lehmann, E. princeps R.A. Dyer and E. trispinosus (Hooker) R.A. Dyer were studied, using E. ferox Bertoloni f. as outgroup. Three continuous and one discontinuous buffer systems were used and gene produ...
متن کاملBiochemical properties of a newly described Escherichia species, Escherichia albertii.
Five strains of a newly described Escherichia species, Escherichia albertii, were extensively characterized by conventional biochemical methods and by commercial identification panels. E. albertii is an indole-negative species that ferments D-mannitol but not D-xylose. Because these strains are not included in the databases of commercial systems at present, they were most often identified as Ha...

A new species of Gymnanthemum (Compositae, Vernonieae) from South Africa is described. It can be distinguished from other species in the genus by the five-flowered capitula and widely obtuse leaf blades.
متن کاملSpinach curly top virus: A Newly Described Curtovirus Species from Southwest Texas with Incongruent Gene Phylogenies.
ABSTRACT A curtovirus associated with a disease of spinach was isolated in southwest Texas during 1996. Disease symptoms included severe stunting and chlorosis, with younger leaves curled, distorted, and dwarfed. Viral DNA was purified and an infectious clone obtained. Agroinoculation using a construct bearing full-length tandem repeats of the cloned viral genome resulted in systemic infection ...
متن کاملInfections due to the newly described species Mycobacterium parascrofulaceum.
We report on four cases of infection by the recently described species Mycobacterium parascrofulaceum. In two cases the mycobacterium was isolated from AIDS patients, while in the others it was responsible for pulmonary disease in elderly men. Our findings suggest that M. parascrofulaceum is an opportunistic pathogen, like many other nontuberculous mycobacterial species.
